As with all projects that end up becoming lesson schemes for my taught DT lessons it always starts with inspiration from a source that isn't necessarily built for the subject area. In this case, it happened to be Mascot Design by SendPoints.
I had previously explored lessons that used the 3D printer, though they always ended up lacking a full exploration into the post-processing stages. This however came to a change with the new lesson plan that saw pupils creating their very own mascot and base. This allowed for an introduction to two forms of 3D printing, FDM and MSLA printing.
3 weeks on research and design
3 weeks on translating their sketch designs into a 3D model using TinkerCAD
5 weeks were spent post processing and painting their model
This all allowed for a greater focus on just how involved 3D printing can be after files have been printed. Producing final projects that came out with a greater finished result, as can be seen in the gallery below.
